Vaporesso Luxe X, every version explained for a tight MTL draw
Seven devices now sit in the Vaporesso Luxe X series, from the original model to the XR Max 2. Reviews and retail listings often mention them without saying which one, so the specs of one model easily end up attached to another. For a tight mouth-to-lung draw, though, the battery is not the question that matters. What counts is the pod supplied, the way the airflow is set and the power the device sends to a 0.8 ohm coil.
Which Vaporesso Luxe X for MTL, the direct answer
The Luxe X2 is the version to favour. Vaporesso calls it the first MTL device in the series. It ships with 0.6 and 0.8 ohm pods, its airflow runs from MTL to a looser MTL, its mouthpiece has been slimmed for that style of draw, and it fires either on the inhale or with a button.
The original Luxe X still makes sense with its 0.8 ohm pod running at 16 W, but its airflow can only be changed by turning the pod round. The X Pro adds a screen and adjustable wattage for anyone who likes to fine-tune. The X3 brings a bigger screen and top-filled Dual Mesh pods.
The XR Max and XR Max 2 are rated at 80 W and aimed first at direct-lung vaping. The second does include an MTL pod in the box, but that is a lot of device for a tight draw.
The Luxe X range in one table, from Vaporesso’s pages
The figures below come from Vaporesso’s own product pages. The pod column lists the pods the brand pairs with each device on its page.
| Version | Battery | Power | Pods on the product page | Display | Airflow |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luxe X | 1500 mAh | 40 W | Luxe X 0.4 and 0.8 ohm | 3 LEDs | by turning the pod round |
| Luxe XR | 1500 mAh | 40 W | Luxe XR, GTX 0.4 and 0.8 ohm | 3 LEDs | depends on MTL or DTL pod |
| Luxe X Pro | 1500 mAh | 40 W, adjustable | Luxe X 0.4 and 0.6 ohm | 0.42 inch OLED | adjustable, MTL to RDL |
| Luxe X2 | 2000 mAh | 40 W maximum | Luxe X Series 0.6 and 0.8 ohm | LEDs | adjustable, MTL to loose MTL |
| Luxe X3 | 2600 mAh | 5 to 45 W | Luxe X Dual Mesh 0.6 and 0.4 ohm | 0.8 inch screen | adjustable, MTL to DTL |
| Luxe XR Max | 2800 mAh | 80 W maximum | Luxe XR DTL, GTX 0.2 and 0.4 ohm | 0.54 inch OLED | adjustable, MTL to DTL |
| Luxe XR Max 2 | 3200 mAh | 5 to 80 W | Luxe XR DTL and MTL, GTX 0.2 and 0.8 ohm | 0.96 inch TFT | adjustable, MTL to DTL |
Vaporesso’s own page for the X2 contradicts itself. The introduction and the pod compatibility list both say 2000 mAh, while the spec sheet reads 2200 mAh. We use 2000 mAh, which matches the X3 page, where the X3 and its 2600 mAh are described as having 30% more capacity than the X2.
Vaporesso sells two editions of most pods, a 5 ml international version and a 2 ml version labelled TPD. British law also caps refillable pods at 2 ml, so the 2 ml edition is the only one that can be sold legally in the UK.
Two pod families under the Vaporesso Luxe X name
The range mixes two approaches. A Luxe X pod has its coil built in, and you replace the whole pod when the flavour fades. A Luxe XR pod is an empty shell that takes a GTX coil, which can be replaced on its own. Vaporesso states that both fit the Luxe X and the Luxe XR.
Later versions build on that base. According to their pages, the X Pro and the X2 accept every Luxe X pod as well as the XR pods with GTX coils. The Luxe X pod page adds the X3, the XR Max and the XR Max 2 to the list of compatible devices. The value-by-value detail is in our guide to which Vaporesso pods fit which device.
The filling direction varies. The classic Luxe X pods and the XR MTL pod fill from the bottom, whereas the X3’s Dual Mesh pods fill from the top.
Setting up a Vaporesso Luxe X for a tight draw
A measured MTL draw depends first on airflow, then on power. Not every Luxe X adjusts the same way, and the method changes from one generation to the next.
Turning the pod round on the original Luxe X
On the Luxe X, there is no airflow ring. You change the direction the pod sits in its slot to move between an open and a tight flow, which Vaporesso calls big cloud mode and small cloud mode. For MTL, the tight position is the one to use.
The airflow control on the X Pro, X2 and X3
The later versions have a proper adjustment. On the X2 it is visibly marked, and Vaporesso gives it a range from MTL to looser MTL without any mention of direct-lung vaping, which suits a tight draw. The X Pro goes from MTL to RDL. The X3 reaches full direct-lung vaping and offers pods with a narrow or a wide mouthpiece.
What power for a 0.8 ohm pod
On the original Luxe X, Vaporesso runs the 0.8 ohm pod at 16 W, with the AXON chip recognising the value fitted. On an adjustable device such as the X Pro or the X3, starting at 16 W follows that reference. It is also the top of the 12 to 16 W range the brand recommends for the GTX coil of the same value.
Firing, locking and assisted settings
The X Pro and the X2 offer dual activation, either on the inhale or with a button. The first is all you need for a slow draw, while the second suits anyone who prefers to decide exactly when the coil starts.
The X3 and the XR Max 2 add a one-button lock, handy when the device travels in a bag. The XR Max recognises the coil fitted, recommends a wattage and caps the maximum to reduce the risk of a burnt taste, all through touch-sensitive buttons.
FAQ
The practical questions that come up once the range is untangled.
Does a Luxe X pod fit the Luxe X3?
Yes. Vaporesso includes the X3 in the list of devices compatible with Luxe X pods, and the X3 page describes it as compatible with the whole family. It also takes the XR MTL pod, with 0.6, 0.8 or 1.2 ohm GTX coils.
What charging does each Luxe X use?
The Luxe X, X Pro and X2 charge over USB-C at 1.5 A. The X3, XR Max and XR Max 2 accept 2 A at 5 V, for noticeably larger batteries.
Does the XR MTL pod fit a Luxe X2?
Yes. The X2 page lists it as compatible with empty XR pods and their GTX coils, and Vaporesso’s GTX coil page places the X2 among the devices for the XR MTL pod, with values from 0.6 to 1.2 ohm.
Is the XR Max 2 set up for MTL out of the box?
Partly. The box contains a DTL pod fitted with a GTX 0.2 ohm Dual Mesh coil and an MTL pod fitted with a GTX 0.8 ohm coil. Vaporesso still presents it as an 80 W device designed first for direct-lung vaping.
How much do the Luxe X models weigh?
Vaporesso only publishes a weight for some of them. Among those, the X2 is the lightest at 80 g, the X3 comes in at 100 g and the XR Max 2 at 117 g. The pages for the original Luxe X, the X Pro and the XR Max give no weight at all.
Vaporesso Luxe X, the right pick for an MTL vaper
The range reads in three steps. The original Luxe X and Luxe XR for simplicity, the X2 for an adjustable tight draw and a mouthpiece shaped for MTL, then the X Pro and X3 for anyone who wants control over the wattage. The XR Max models remain high-power devices.
For a measured mouth-to-lung draw, a Vaporesso Luxe X2 with its 0.8 ohm pod and the airflow nearly closed covers the essentials. Whatever the version, a Luxe X pod moves from one Vaporesso Luxe X to another, which keeps replacement parts simple.
